Edge-AI silicon led a quiet drone tape — Ambarella +7.2% on the semiconductor relief bounce — while small-cap airframe names lagged and Draganfly fell 3.7%.

Ambarella (AMBA) led the basket on Friday, up 7.2% to $67.43, riding the autonomy-compute rung rather than any drone-specific news. The session was a broad semiconductor relief rally — the S&P 500 closed up about 0.6% — after a Bloomberg report that OpenAI expects annualized revenue of $70bn or more by year-end reversed Thursday's AI-capex selloff. Edge-AI names bounced hardest, and Ambarella's CVflow vision SoCs sit squarely on the autonomy-compute chokepoint that turns a drone into an autonomous platform. No company-specific catalyst surfaced for the move; it was the sector. NextNav (NN) rose 6.5% to $12.35 on the comms-datalinks-and-PNT rung, also without a confirmed Friday catalyst — a positioning-resilience name moving with risk appetite.

The laggard was Draganfly (DPRO), down 3.7% to $4.40, with no company news — a thin small-cap airframe name drifting in a session that rotated toward compute and away from commodity hardware. It had company at the bottom: American Resources / ReElement (AREC) −3.6% to $1.59, Unusual Machines (UMAC) −2.6% to $20.83, and Red Cat (RCAT) −2.4% to $5.77. The split is the session's structural read — the airframes-and-primes rung lagged while the silicon that flies the aircraft led.

Across the rest of the tape, the defense primes were quiet: RTX +0.9% to $185.97, L3Harris flat at $236.97, Kratos +1.0% to $42.36, AeroVironment −0.4% to $137.11, and Elbit Systems −1.4% to $655.74. The rare-earth-magnet rung — the chokepoint that gates motor and actuator supply for Western drone makers — was mixed and muted: MP Materials flat at $46.14, USA Rare Earth −0.6% to $12.56, Energy Fuels +0.2% to $9.96, and Lynas's ordinary line (LYSCF) +1.5% to $8.71. Nothing in the magnet complex moved on fresh news.

The near-term calendar is dense. AUSA 2026, the Army's largest annual meeting and exposition, runs Oct 12–14 in Washington — the venue where counter-UAS, Launched Effects and autonomy programs get airtime and contract color. The rare-earth-magnet rung is watching two Chinese policy clocks: the one-year suspension of China's October 2025 rare-earth export controls expires Nov 10, and the gallium/germanium/antimony export-ban suspension expires Nov 27 — either lapse would re-tighten the magnet-materials chokepoint. Further out, the FAA's Part 108 BVLOS final rule is targeted for publication by Dec 31, the regulatory unlock the commercial-drone names have waited on all year.
