A thin-microcap bid lifted Draganfly into Commercial UAV Expo week while LightPath's optics chokepoint kept sliding ahead of its Sept 10 print.

The leader was the smallest, thinnest name on the board, and the move deserves a caveat rather than a thesis. Draganfly (DPRO) rose 21.4% to $5.42 on Monday, a low-float microcap on the airframes-and-primes chokepoint with no clean same-day disclosure behind the spike. The proximate driver is calendar, not news: Commercial UAV Expo opens in Las Vegas on September 1–3, the industry's largest gathering and a reliable venue for program and partnership headlines across exactly these small-cap names. The recent record on Draganfly is more prosaic — Q2 revenue of CAD 2.7 million (up 26% year over year, reported August 10) and the August 24 appointment of retired USMC Brigadier General A.J. Pasagian to lead U.S. defense operations — so read Monday's pop as expo-week positioning in an illiquid stock rather than a confirmed catalyst.

The laggard was the sensor strait, extending Friday's rout. LightPath Technologies (LPTH) fell another 10.4% to $10.06, compounding the prior session's near-19% drop and shedding more value on the EO/IR-optics chokepoint — the germanium and chalcogenide-glass infrared lenses that turn a drone into an ISR or targeting platform. There was again no clean company disclosure to pin the move to; the price action reads as continued de-risking into LightPath's fiscal Q4/FY2026 results due September 10, a print that now carries the weight of two consecutive down sessions.

The rest of the tape was mixed and orderly. On the up side, the connectivity-and-edge names firmed — Qualcomm (QCOM) added 3.8% to $170.48 and NN Inc. (NN) rose 3.3% — while the prime-contractor anchor held, L3Harris (LHX) up 1.3% to $266.25. The soft side was concentrated in the speculative and private-exposure end: Destiny Tech100 (DXYZ), the listed private-giants proxy, fell 7.5% to $32.13, Ondas (ONDS) lost 3.1% to $7.66, and MP Materials (MP) — the domestic rare-earth and magnet chokepoint that underwrites motor and actuator supply — eased 2.5% to $54.75.

The calendar is immediate and dense. Commercial UAV Expo (September 1–3) is the week's live catalyst; LightPath's fiscal Q4/FY2026 results land September 10 and will test whether the two-day slide anticipated a weak quarter. Further out, the FAA's Part 108 BVLOS final rule — the beyond-visual-line-of-sight framework that unlocks commercial scale — remains expected in the second half of 2026, and the expiries of China's suspended rare-earth and gallium/germanium export controls (November 10 and 27) hang over the magnet and sensor supply chains that define this vertical.
