Programmable-logic silicon led a defense-electronics bid while DroneShield's US line cratered 10% on a record-revenue-but-loss half-year.

The edge-compute chokepoint led Wednesday's tape. Lattice Semiconductor was the desk's leader, up 2.8% to $119.34, after Benchmark initiated coverage with a Buy rating and a $160 price target, citing Lattice's share gains in low-power programmable logic and its push into mid-size FPGAs; KeyBanc separately lifted its target to $125 from $95 on the last quarter's beat and shrinking inventory. That matters to this vertical because the low-power FPGA is the programmable-logic layer that sits inside autonomy stacks and counter-UAS sensors — the piece that does real-time signal work at the edge of a drone or a defeat system, where a general-purpose accelerator draws too much power.

The laggard was the counter-UAS chokepoint itself. DroneShield's US OTC line (DRSHF) fell 10.4% to $1.335, tracking a 9.4% slide in its ASX-listed shares (DRO) on the company's 1H CY2026 result. Revenue was a record A$125.8 million, up 74% year over year, but the print carried a statutory after-tax loss of A$32.2 million against a consensus profit, gross margin compressed 5.3 points to 60% on product mix, currency and an inventory impairment, and underlying EBITDA swung to a A$12.4 million loss from an A$8 million profit. The detect-and-defeat layer is growing fast, but the market repriced the cost of getting there.

The rest of the basket split by chokepoint. Defense-electronics and compute names were bid — Mercury Systems +2.3% to $89.76, CACI +2.1% to $624.74 and Qualcomm +2.0% to $163.72 — while NVIDIA slipped 1.6% to $209.66 ahead of its own print. The rare-earth-magnet chokepoint was the day's soft spot: Lynas's US line fell 6.1% on its FY2026 results, MP Materials lost 1.4% to $59.31 and USA Rare Earth 2.5% to $18.92, a reminder that the magnet supply that gates drone motors remains the vertical's most volatile strait. Optics name LightPath fell 4.4% to $13.18.

The calendar ahead is dense. NVIDIA's fiscal Q2 landed after Wednesday's close as the reference for the whole compute layer, and Ambarella reports Thursday. Commercial UAV Expo runs September 1–3 in Las Vegas, LightPath's fiscal Q4 lands September 10, and the FAA's Part 108 BVLOS final rule is still expected in the second half of the year — the single biggest domestic demand unlock for the vertical. Further out, the AUSA annual meeting is October 12–14, and China's one-year suspensions of its rare-earth and gallium/germanium/antimony export controls expire November 10 and November 27, the magnet chokepoint's next hard test.
