Motorola led the comms choke up 2.7% on counter-drone M&A while Enovix cratered 12.8% after its CEO quit for Kulicke & Soffa, all against a broad AI-risk selloff.

The comms-and-datalinks choke led on a day the broad tape sold risk. Motorola Solutions rose +2.7% to $469.50, extending the follow-through from its August 5 second quarter — revenue up 13% to $3.13 billion, non-GAAP EPS up 24% to $4.41, full-year guidance raised to $17.62–$17.72 — with added support from its pending acquisition of D-Fend Solutions, a counter-drone RF-detection specialist. That deal is the tell for this vertical: the value is migrating toward whoever owns the spectrum-sensing and datalink layer, the choke where a drone is found, jammed, or defeated. As Treasury yields sat near multiyear highs and the Nasdaq logged a third straight loss, the defensive public-safety comms name was exactly the kind of ballast that held.

The laggard sat at the battery-energy-density choke and broke on its own governance. Enovix fell −12.8% to $3.14 after CEO Raj Talluri resigned to take the top job at Kulicke & Soffa, forcing the board to install largest holder T.J. Rodgers as executive chairman and CFO Ryan Benton as interim CEO. William Blair cut the stock to Market Perform and TD Cowen trimmed its target to $5.50, flagging near-term confidence damage. The structural read: endurance is the drone battery choke's whole promise, and a pre-scale silicon-anode maker losing its operator — into a tape where 19-year-high yields are punishing every speculative growth name — reprices that promise fast.

The rest of the basket tracked its chokepoints. The rare-earth magnets-and-motors choke gave back its recent reshoring rally — American Resources −9.2% to $2.68, USA Rare Earth −4.0% to $18.51, MP Materials −3.1% to $56.67, Energy Fuels −4.7% — as the risk-off tape unwound the DoD-and-tax-credit trade that had run the group in mid-August. Autonomy-compute and optics softened with the semis: Ambarella −4.7% to $74.82, Lattice −6.4% to $124.21, LightPath −3.9%, Nvidia −2.3% to $219.74, Mercury Systems −7.4% to $105. The airframes-and-primes choke was the shelter — RTX +1.7%, Elbit +1.6%, CACI +1.0%, L3Harris +0.4% — though AeroVironment slipped −3.9% to $174.14 and Kratos −2.1%.

The calendar is dense into September. The Pentagon's "Gauntlet II" Drone Dominance production down-select is expected late August (around the 24th), with DroneShield's 1H CY2026 report and Ambarella's fiscal Q2 both on August 26, and Nvidia — the demand signal for the autonomy-compute layer — the same evening. Commercial UAV Expo runs in Las Vegas September 1–3, the FAA's Part 108 BVLOS final rule remains outstanding and overdue for H2, and AUSA lands in Washington October 12–14. The near-term tell is whether the counter-drone M&A cycle Motorola just extended pulls more spectrum-and-detection names into play while the battery and rare-earth choke digest the yield shock.
