Ultralife's post-earnings follow-through led the battery-and-power choke while a fresh Air Force order ripped Red Cat, and the autonomy-compute layer sold off with the broader AI-chip tape.

Ultralife led the basket in Monday's session, up +9.3% to $6.94 — follow-through on the fiscal-Q2 report it delivered Friday (August 7). The print was clean at the battery-and-power chokepoint this vertical maps: EPS of $0.15 against $0.05 a year ago, revenue of $47.9M, gross margin up roughly 500 basis points to 28.9%, and — the number that matters for a supplier — a record $117.5M backlog, up 39% year over year, with Communication Systems revenue up 39.3%. Ultralife sits where the drone supply chain is least glamorous and most binding: the batteries and power systems that gate endurance, so an order book growing faster than revenue is a leading read on demand for the physical energy layer, not a re-rating of the airframe on top of it.

The laggard came from the opposite end of the stack. Ambarella fell −5.5% to $82.04 at the autonomy-compute choke, with no company-specific news — it does not report fiscal Q2 until August 27. The move is best read as beta: the edge-AI silicon names traded down with the broader multi-week AI-chip pullback, and Ambarella de-rated alongside Qualcomm (−3.4%) and NVIDIA (−2.9%) rather than on anything of its own. Lantronix (−4.0%) and LightPath (−3.8%) rounded out a soft autonomy-and-optics tape, and NextNav (−5.4%) gave back at the PNT layer.

The session's real energy was in physical inputs and platforms, not compute. Red Cat jumped +8.6% to $10.00 after its Teal Drones unit won a $2.49M firm-fixed-price U.S. Air Force order for Black Widow small UAS — drones, training, batteries and spares, delivery due by August 24 — as the service evaluates whether Black Widow can replace its Teal 2 fleet. At the rare-earth-and-magnets choke MP Materials extended its Q2 beat to +6.9% at $54.66, with American Resources +4.0% riding the same reshoring bid; Kratos added +2.7% at the RF/EW layer. It was a session that rewarded whoever controls a scarce physical input or holds a fresh government contract, and penalized the crowded semiconductor names that price the finished autonomy.

The calendar tightens quickly. Unusual Machines reports Q2 on August 12 at the NDAA-compliant supply choke. The Pentagon's 'Gauntlet II' drone-dominance final competition and production down-select is targeted for around August 24. DroneShield's 1H results and NVIDIA's fiscal-Q2 print both land August 26, with Ambarella's own report following August 27 — the test of whether Monday's autonomy-compute weakness was beta or something structural. Commercial UAV Expo runs September 1–3 in Las Vegas. Overhanging all of it, the FAA's Part 108 BVLOS final rule remains the regulatory gate that would unlock the commercial demand the hardware names are building for.
