Amprius raised guidance on drone-battery demand and led the tape, while Lattice gave back an earnings pop and the rare-earth magnet complex quietly caught a bid.
Amprius Technologies led the vertical, up +8.4% to $11.72, after a Q2 print that beat and — more to the point — raised the full year. Revenue was $34.0M, up 126% year over year, and management lifted 2026 guidance to at least $140M while reiterating a path to positive adjusted EBITDA, explicitly crediting military and commercial drone demand. This is the energy-density chokepoint stated as a number: endurance is the binding constraint on a UAV's mission radius, silicon-anode cells are the lever on gravimetric density, and Amprius is the purest listed proxy for it. The move was a genuine fundamental re-rate, not sector beta — the drone tape overall was mixed-to-soft.
The laggard was Lattice Semiconductor, off −7.0% to $128.31, and it was a textbook buy-the-rumor-sell-the-news. Lattice's Q2 was strong — record revenue of $201M, up 62%, with non-GAAP EPS of $0.53 against a $0.44 consensus — but the stock had already surged ~8.5% into the print, and the completion of its ~$1B AMI acquisition on July 27 left investors weighing integration and balance-sheet questions over the beat. Lattice sits at the low-power control-silicon choke: its FPGAs are the reprogrammable glue in autonomy and EO/IR payloads, so the pullback is positioning, not a demand signal — Jefferies and Needham both raised targets ($175 and $160) alongside the drop.
The counter-tape ran through the magnet-and-materials choke. With China's rare-earth export-suspension expiries looming this fall, the domestic supply names bid up: American Resources/ReElement (+5.4% to $2.14), USA Rare Earth flat, MP Materials (+0.9%), and the foreign ordinary Lynas (+3.7%) all firmed, and Umicore's ADR added +3.8%. On the platform and payload side, Kratos (+6.7% to $55.34) and NextNav (+6.7% to $14.83) led gainers while NVIDIA rose +3.4% into its late-August print. The soft side was avionics and small-cap hardware: Mercury Systems −4.8%, LightPath −4.0%, Unusual Machines −3.5%, Energy Fuels −3.3%, and Qualcomm −3.2%.
The calendar is dense this week. MP Materials and Motorola Solutions (Silvus integration color) both report Q2 today, the direct read on the magnet supply chain and the mesh-radio backbone. Unusual Machines' Q2 lands August 12 and LightPath's fiscal Q4 September 10. The larger overhangs are regulatory: the FAA's Part 108 BVLOS final rule is still expected in the second half of 2026 — the gating event for scaled commercial operations — and China's one-year suspensions of its rare-earth and gallium/germanium/antimony export controls expire November 10 and November 27, the two dates that decide whether the domestic-magnet trade is a hedge or a necessity.
