US drone-supply names amplified a record-setting risk-on tape, with reshored-motor and rare-earth plays leading on beta rather than any fresh single-name catalyst.

Unusual Machines led the vertical, up +15.6% to $26.67, but the honest read is beta, not news. Tuesday was a record-setting risk-on session — the S&P 500 rose +1.79% to 7,736.52 and the Nasdaq Composite +2.59% to 26,584.99, both fresh records — and the high-beta reshored-drone names simply multiplied that move. No dated company catalyst surfaced for UMAC on the session; its Q2 print is not due until mid-August, so this reads as positioning into that report plus sector momentum. What UMAC is remains the point: it is the most direct listed play on the motor side of the choke, running roughly 15,000 NDAA-compliant brushless motors a month out of Orlando, with non-Chinese NdFeB magnet sourcing as its gating input. When the drone-supply trade runs, this is the name that runs hardest.

The only real red in the basket was Leonardo DRS, off −1.2% to $45.27, and it is not a structural tell. DRS sits at the EO/IR-sensor chokepoint and reported a strong Q2 on July 30 — revenue $913M, up 10%, with raised full-year guidance and a $450M Raft acquisition — so Tuesday's dip is post-earnings consolidation, a large-cap prime giving back a fraction while speculative small-caps melted up. On a day this green, a defense blue-chip drifting lower is a rotation artifact, not a crack in the sensor thesis.

The tape underneath was broadly higher. LightPath added +11.7% to $12.49, extending Monday's run at the same EO/IR-optics choke as DRS, and DroneShield's US line gained +11.4% to $1.53 — an oversold rebound after a roughly 30% July slide on soft FY guidance, not fresh good news. Mobilicom rose +9.1%. The rare-earth-magnet choke that underpins every motor moved together: USA Rare Earth +8.9% to $17.28 and MP Materials +8.3% to $47.47. Elsewhere in the airframe-and-autonomy complex, Red Cat gained +7.3%, AeroVironment +6.2%, Ondas +5.9% and Kratos +5.4%. The macro backdrop helped: WTI crude fell more than 6% on hopes the Strait of Hormuz reopens, and Palantir's roughly 30% earnings surge re-lit the defense-AI narrative these names trade on.

The calendar turns concrete this week. MP Materials reports Q2 on August 6, the cleanest read on rare-earth pricing power, alongside Motorola Solutions the same day for Silvus-integration color. Unusual Machines' own Q2 is expected August 12, the near-term test of whether Orlando motor output is compounding as claimed. Further out, the Pentagon's "Gauntlet II" drone competition and production down-select on August 24 is the hard catalyst for the group's US-made-airframe thesis.
