Ambarella surged 28% on edge-AI momentum and AeroVironment jumped 18.8% on a record earnings beat, as the autonomy and airframe chokepoints led a broad drone-basket melt-up into quarter-end.

Ambarella (AMBA) led the basket by a wide margin on Tuesday, up 28.0% to $85.80, a momentum-driven melt-up rather than a single-catalyst pop. There was no acquisition or fresh earnings print behind it; the move extended a run of edge-AI enthusiasm — following the company's recent record automotive and edge-AI quarter and a set of KeyBanc-hosted institutional roadshow meetings in late June — into an outsized session as the Nasdaq closed its best quarter since 2020. Ambarella owns the autonomy-compute chokepoint for drones: its CVflow perception SoCs (the CV5 in Antigravity's A1, the 4nm CV7 family) deliver perception-class autonomy inside a drone's power budget, and the $800M-plus, ten-year Hanwha sourcing agreement signed in May shows strategic buyers locking up that supply. On a day the tape rewarded edge-AI silicon, AMBA was the purest expression of it.

American Resources (AREC) was the nominal laggard, down 3.2% to $2.15, but the move carries little signal — it is a thin, speculative micro-cap whose rare-earth-magnet exposure is second-hand, a ~17-19% minority stake in ReElement Technologies rather than an operating refiner. The more substantive story sat on the green side of the ledger: AeroVironment (AVAV) jumped 18.8% to $165.07 after its fiscal Q4 report, where record quarterly revenue of $641.6M and adjusted EPS of $1.84 crushed estimates near $1.46, with fiscal-year bookings of $2.7 billion and a 1.4 book-to-bill. The Autonomous Systems division drove 77% of revenue, and the print anchors AVAV's grip on the airframes-primes and NDAA-compliant-supply chokepoints even as the terminated $1.7B SCAR program tempered the guidance.

The strength was broad across the drone supply chain. On the rare-earth-magnet and NDAA-compliant-motor choke, Unusual Machines (UMAC) rose 16.0% to $22.30, the most direct US-listed play on non-Chinese brushless motors. The EO/IR-sensor node firmed with LightPath (LPTH) +12.2% to $16.35, whose germanium-free BlackDiamond optics substitute for scarce germanium, and Mercury Systems (MRCY) +11.0% to $122.33 one layer downstream in ISR image processing. Kratos (KTOS) added 6.2% to $49.86 on the airframes-and-effectors side. The basket moved with the risk-on tape, but each leg maps to a distinct supply-chain strait rather than generic beta.

The next hard catalysts are legislative and defense-procurement. The Senate Armed Services Committee's FY27 NDAA markup is expected around July 8, with a House floor vote on H.R. 8800 targeted mid-July — both direct reads on the NDAA-compliance mandates that underpin AVAV and UMAC. Teledyne reports Q2 on July 22 and RTX on July 28 for the primes-and-interceptors side, Unusual Machines is due around August 12, and the FAA's Part 108 BVLOS final rule remains the structural swing factor expected in the second half of 2026.
